FIABCI 66th World Congress:

A Showcase of the World’s Development and Housing Topics by Industry Experts

KUALA LUMPUR – FIABCI, the International Real Estate Federation, is presently hosting its 2015 World Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 26-31 May, 2015.

The Congress, which has been organized by the FIABCI Malaysian Chapter, is attended by delegates from around the world and will engage participants into the in-depth discussion surrounding topics related to the Congress theme “Urbanization: Perils or Prosperity?”

The Congress features notable speakers who will discuss topics covering sustainable development, affordable housing, market outlook and urbanization.  Participants have an opportunity to network, build business, share experiences, advance industry knowledge and stimulate conversations related to the Congress theme.

The Congress was officially opened by the Kuala Lumpur City Mayor Datuk Seri Hj Ahmad Phesal Talib who delivered the keynote address to Congress attendees on May 29.

The first speaker for the Congress was Dato’ Pretam Singh Darshan Singh, a partner of Pretam Singh, Nor & Co, Malaysia, who focused on the “Effective Legislations in Promoting Sustainable Development.”  Dato’ Pretam is a Deputy Parliamentary Draftsman and a legal advisor to various organizations and bodies with a list of publications such as “Effective Ways to Persuade In Taxation Proceedings” (2010) and“Rebroadcasting” (2011).

There was a presentation on “A Case Study on Sustainable City – Springfield Australia” by Maha Sinnathamby.  Maha is the chairman of Springfield Land Corporation, Australia and is the founder of Greater Springfield, Australia – the country’s fastest emerging new city. Greater Springfield won the FIABCI World Prix D’Excellence Award for Best Master Planned Community in 2010.  Recently, it was awarded the 2014 President’s Award at the Urban Development Institute of Australia Queensland Awards for Excellence.

FIABCI also hosted the International Property Measurements Standards Committee (IPMS) meeting and is serving an active role within The International Property Measurement Standards Coalition (IPMSC), an initiative to define an international standard for measuring property. Developed by a coalition of organisations and professionals from around the world, IPMSC is establishing  a single property measurement standard which will provide a consistent and transparent method for measuring property.  During the first day of the FIABCI World Congress a special presentation took place with Ken Creighton, Lisa Prats and Jean-Yves Pirlot who presented the International Property Measurements Standards.  Creighton is the director of Professional Standards, RICS and Chairman of the Trustees, IPMS Coalition.  Prats is the Vice President of Marketing and International Affairs for the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International.  Pirlot is the President of CLGE and the Secretary General of the IPMS Coalition.

On May 30, the first presentation will be presented by Liu Zhifeng, the President of the Chinese Real Estate Association, who will discuss Urban Affordable Housing: Practical Policies and Successful Development Strategies.

Wong Heang Fine, the Group Chief Executive Officer of award-winning international urbanization consultant Surbana, will present Singapore Urban Property Prices Hike vs. Affordable Housing Need: Reality and Solutions.

Many other distinguished global speakers will present topics related to urbanization, totaling 20 different subjects focused on the theme during the program.

The FIABCI Prix d’ Excellence Awards Gala Dinner on 30 May will be graced by D.Y.M.M Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus, Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir and D.Y.M.M Tunku Ampuan Tuanku Aishah Rohaini Binti Almarhum Tengku Besar Mahmud.

The Congress will end at 5pm on May 31 with the handing over of 67th FIABCI World Congress Flag to FIABCI Panama where next year’s FIABCI World Congress will take place.
