FIABCI is an advisor to the United Nations on the activities related to property matters. The United Nations and ECOSOC in particular, are currently working on a number of issues, such as regulations, co- ownership, urbanization, assessments, security of transactions, rules for the access and the practice of real estate professions.
It is actually essential that the operators of the real estate industry are represented and give a contribution to knowledge and understanding. Globalization reached the real estate market, making increasingly necessary to adopt shared International Regulations  and Ethical codes.
Rules and regulations must be drawn up in consultation with specialists in the field and not just technocrats.

  • 1978 UN_General_Assembly_hallPolitics:

FIABCI assumes the role of identifying policies and strategies relating to property and to transmit this information to the United Nations. This happened for example in relation to the homeless problem or the relationship between real estate market and the environment; on these issues FIABCI has published reports in which the United Nations constantly refer .
FIABCI is currently working on the concept of property rights .
Over the centuries it was considered that property rights involved only owners and tenants;  currently, influential economists see property rights as the backbone of every community and one of the levers of prosperity.
Hernando de Soto, the renowned Peruvian economist, explains the differences in countries development with their ability to benefit from the ownership and possession of the land and their expertise in issuing appropriate and simple deeds.

That says a lot about the influence that the legislation on property rights assumes in the country economy.
In this regard, FIABCI is currently working on a “White Paper” on property rights, which will be presented to the United Nations. This will be an important chapter of FIABCI policy.

  • Charities:

FIABCI promotes a range of charitable initiatives related to the real estate world.
One of these programs was the creation of the Global Housing Foundation and the construction of dozens of homes in Nicaragua, in collaboration with the United Nations.
Sustainable development is a concept that includes the problems of homelessness , property rights, environment and ethical codes.  This is the real challenge for a “non-exclusive” world economy and is subject to agreements between governments, businesses and the United Nations, within the system of the so-called “Global Compact” .
FIABCI is proud to be at the forefront on these issues that require the co-existence of high levels of professionalism and desire to be useful to his fellow men.
That’s a key issue for FIABCI members for being proud of the organization to which they belong.
